The Giving Tree Read Aloud

Kindergarten students at St. Christopher Catholic School had the opportunity to gather together and listen to a read aloud of The Giving Tree by Leah Marie Dorion and Norman Fleury.

Integrating Indigenous perspectives into early learning supports children in developing respect, empathy, and a deeper understanding of traditional cultures of the territory. Through stories, educators are creating inclusive environments that highlight the excellence of First Nation, Métis and Inuit.

This approach aligns with early learning curricula by promoting holistic development—supporting children's sense of identity, belonging, and well-being. It encourages inquiry, creativity, and relationship-building, while fostering a strong foundation for truth and reconciliation through age-appropriate learning experiences.
